I went for the first time last year, ran into some friends, snapped a photo of St. Roy, and came home with some new toys.
The tailgating starts around 6:00 a.m. and the doors open at 9:00 for the dealers' show.
The second auction is the Brown International Antique Tool Auction on March 26 and 27. The dealers' sale is Friday and the actual auction is Saturday. It's a good sale, but the spring show is typically not quite as packed with vendors as the fall show. Last year, vendors started closing up early and many were gone by 5:00. So if you plan to go, go early.

Kari, do you know of any shows more in the New England area?
Spicer auctions has some in Rhode Island. There are spring and fall auctions in Nashua New Hampshire. Google Live Free or Die tool auctions and you'll find it. There is always tailgating in Nashua as well.
Thanks, John, for mentioning the shows. I didn't know of any.
Kari, bring your hip waders in addition to the parka--it's supposed to rain here for about 6 days. Looking forward to seeing you!
Emily, thanks for the heads-up. I'll wear my rain bonnet. Looking forward to seeing you and Pete, too. :o)
Rain bonnet. Hehheh. I just asked my neice the other day if she was going to get a new bonnet for easter, and she accused me of making the word "bonnet" up. I told her to look it up and she now thinks I'm involved in some global conspiracy to insert made-up words in Wikipedia.
Please post a picture of yourself in your bonnet, Kari.
John, will a baseball cap suffice? ; )
I suppose. But don't expect me to start calling my baseball cap a bonnet.
John, didn't you know? "Bonnet" is the new word they're using for "Baseball cap." Just ask your neice. hee hee
I'm gullible, but not quite that gullible. I've already left the house with pink barrettes in my hair. I'd like to think it was a good look.
Hi Kari - I remember that from last year...bit far to come from the UK.
Have a good day out, watch the wallet! - Rob
It was nice to meet you there, it all fell into place so easily. We were in NC for Roy's class and he mentioned the PATINA sale during the presentation on Wednesday Evening about Planes for Joinery.
(Actually, it was in reaction to me snorting at his price estimate on a moving fillister plane. We have very very few old tools up my way, and when you see them they are either busted or super expensive, or usually both.)
We drove from Williamsburg to Maryland to catch the last couple hours and it was pretty cool to catch you there.
Plus I got a moving fillister plane for 27 bucks in good shape! Last one I saw out my way was over a hundred bucks, and it was in nasty shape.
John, you take me as more of a chartreuse barrette kinda guy. :D
Rob, I only spent $17. Can you believe it? But, I have a date to visit Tom Law's shop, where I'm sure to drop a few bucks on some nice saws. He didn't bring the short saws with him this time.
Badger, it was nice to meet you, too! Sounds like you're having a terrific vacation with a class at Roy's and then an outstanding price on a moving fillister. I bought one from the UK for about $40 US, but then paid $40 for shipping. So you got a heck of a deal. Enjoy the rest of your trip. :o)
Sorry we missed each other up there. It was definitely a lot to take in. Now that I have an idea of what to expect, I can better prep for what I want to look for next year.
