There's Only One Norm

Nice try, Daisy, but no one can replace Norm Abram.
It's going to take more than a flannel shirt, dungarees, and fake beard to fill his workboots.

Chris Schwarz has declared today "International Dress Like Norm Day." And all across the world, woodworkers are honoring the man who, for 21 years, brought woodworking into our homes, nail guns into our hearts, and triggered an economic tsunami of demand for flannel.

Here's to you, Norm.
Thank you for teaching me how to use power tools.

---------------------

....and by the way, Daisy, you forgot your safety glasses.
Epic Norm-imitation FAIL!

Daisy's beard is _so_ much better than my sorry attempt. Adorable!

Hilarious!

Indeed we are getting contest entries from all over the world. I just home we get some from northwestern France:

Norman Norm.

I'm sitting in my jeans and flannel waiting for the trick-or-treaters. I've got my safety glasses on stand-by. I wish I could say that I re-grew my beard just for the occasion, but that might be stretching the truth just a hair.
Anyway, I'll be on the couch, full of home-made chili and biscuits, and handing out candy to little kids. How great is that?

Norm, the guy who introduced air nailers and tool belts to fine woodworking ...

I do credit Norm for getting me re-interested in woodworking twenty years ago. I think he has brought woodworking to the attention of a large portion of the public.

Thanks, Dan!

Bob, maybe you should buy stock in flannel. ; )

Terry, yes, she is! She will stand like a soldier for a treat.

Megan, if only Daisy's ears were long enough, I could have saved $7 on a fake beard. haha

Chris, I can't wait to see the entries!

Mike, sounds like a great evening. Especially the chili and biscuits. yum!

Bill, tool belts do indeed make a fine fashion statement. :o)

Emily, nonsense!! I'm looking forward to seeing your photo.

ervet1976, I totally agree. In fact, he's probably had a hand in driving sales of ww machinery.

I've met Norm. Nice guy, but he needs to lay off the power tools a bit. :-P

And yes, Norm still wears long-sleeved flannel even in the middle of summer.

Anyway, Norm said that This Old House would start having episodes with more "sweat equity" and I hope to see that. The show has strayed a bit from its roots.

I knew this would happen....impersonators will be coming out of the woodwork.

Jonathan, I'm glad to hear that Norm is going to stay in the public eye in some capacity. Also glad to hear that he wears flannel year round. hee hee

Rob, oh, but there will be more opportunities for dress up in future, I'm sure. (insert evil laugh)

Keith, you nailed it!

I hope the folks at PETA don't get hold of that photo. Be on the lookout for protesters at your shop.

Eric, can't blame a dog for trying. ; )

This is hilarious! I am a fan of Norm as well. I credit him for getting me started in woodworking years ago, but only recently do I have time to do it a little more seriously.
