Here's how I spent my Saturday: turning pens on a lathe—the extent of my woodtu
rning capabilities. There are lots of great pen making articles online, so I won't go into the details of how to make them, but I did take progress shots. A friend of ours commissioned me to make them for Christmas gifts. She chose 5 birdseye maple and 1 marado (sp?). I've also made pens out of other woods such as bloodwood, chakte viga, yellowheart, purpleheart, wenge, padauk, ziricote, walnut, and apple.
Those are beautiful pens VC! Do you make them in fountain pens as well?
ReplyDeleteThanks! I would love to make fountain pens as they are my favorite, but they require long, straight holes to be drilled into the wood blank and my drill press is not accurate enough. : (
ReplyDeleteMaybe someday I'll try to fashion some other way to make them.
